Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Ahmed Kurbanov met with Pakistani Ambassador Irfan Ahmed, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Ashgabat. The Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan stated that new successes have been achieved in bilateral cooperation during his tenure.
The strategic basis is a partnership in the energy sector, specifically on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, power transmission lines, and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) fibre-optic cable.
Experts informed Daryo that Pakistan is facing severe fuel shortages and is looking to diversify its supply. Islamabad continues to back the TAPI pipeline project, which is currently under discussion with the new Taliban government in Kabul, who took power in August 2021.
The agenda includes securing and financing major infrastructure projects in Afghanistan. Additionally, liquefied gas deliveries from Turkmenistan to Pakistan via Afghanistan's Kandahar province began last year.
