President Mirziyoyev inaugurates Karakalpakstan bridge and railway developments
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev made a visit to the Khorezm region on February 29. The highlight of his visit was the inauguration of a new bridge in the Amudarya district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, a project of immense economic and social importance, press service of the president reported.
The initiative, proposed by the President of Azerbaijan during a meeting with Khorezm region activists in December 2020, has now come to fruition after extensive planning and execution.
Speaking at the ceremonial opening ceremony, President Mirziyoyev emphasized the project's effectiveness and its pivotal role in the region's development strategy.
He stated, "Development of the archipelago region, in particular the Republic of Karakalpakstan, is one of the main goals of our country's development strategy, first of all, to mitigate the consequences of the environmental crisis and create favorable conditions for our population living in a difficult situation. As I said before, the fate of Karakalpakstan is the fate of Uzbekistan, the happiness and well-being of the Karakalpak people is the happiness and well-being of the entire people of Uzbekistan. Today, we are taking another huge step towards the realization of this noble goal."
With the capacity to carry 24 pairs of trains in both directions, the bridge is set to reduce railway distances and speed up freight transportation. Additionally, it is anticipated to open new routes to Kazakhstan and Russia, stimulating trade and connectivity in the region.
President Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the dedicated team of builders, designers, and engineers who worked tirelessly to bring the project to fruition. He acknowledged their contributions and reiterated the government's commitment to ongoing efforts aimed at enhancing the well-being of the population.
In continuation of efforts to improve transportation infrastructure, President Mirziyoyev announced plans for the electrification of key railway routes, including the Bukhara-Urganch-Khiva and Miskin-Nukus lines. These initiatives are expected to usher in a new era of high-speed rail travel, further enhancing connectivity within Uzbekistan.
