Rahmatullah Nabil, the former head of Afghanistan's national security service, has expressed concerns about the Taliban exploring avenues to acquire tactical nuclear weapons. The announcement was reported by Aamaj News, detailing Nabil's remarks at the ongoing Herat security meeting in Dushanbe.
During the meeting, Nabil asserted, "I have reports that the Taliban group is investigating ways to acquire tactical nuclear weapons." He further suggested that the Taliban might secure these weapons through potential channels such as Pakistan or by compensating engineers for their involvement in the acquisition process. As of now, the interim government of Afghanistan has not issued any response to this alarming disclosure.
Coinciding with Nabil's revelation, the Herat Security Conference was inaugurated on November 27 in the capital of Tajikistan. The conference has drawn the participation of individuals, experts, and politicians united against the Taliban government. Scheduled to span two days, the event serves as a platform for participants to deliberate on the prevailing situation in Afghanistan.
Earlier, Daryo reported that Taliban has declared its intention to completely block the flow of water from the Kunar River, a vital watercourse running from Afghanistan into Pakistan.
