The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has extended the tariff exemption for electric vehicles imported into the Eurasian Economic Union countries. This exemption, which will now last until December 31, 2025, is applicable to a limited number of vehicles and is exclusively available to citizens permanently residing in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. It does not extend to individuals with citizenship and/or permanent residence in Russia.
EEC Trade Minister Andrey Slepnev has expressed optimism that the extended tariff exemption, coupled with other measures to stimulate demand for electric vehicles, will contribute to their wider distribution. These measures include the development of a robust network of charging stations and the promotion of electric vehicle production.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan has proposed quotas for the import of electric vehicles in the coming years. The proposed quota for 2024 is set at 15,000 cars, with an increase to 20,000 cars in 2025. This move is seen as a significant step towards promoting the use of electric vehicles in the region.
The extension of the tariff exemption and the proposed quotas are part of a broader strategy to promote the use of electric vehicles, reduce carbon emissions, and move towards a more sustainable future.
