President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan has underscored the immense tourism potential of the Surkhandarya region, which boasts over 600 cultural heritage and tourism sites. Recognizing the rich historical and cultural tapestry of the area, the president unveiled a comprehensive plan to further develop tourism infrastructure and attractions.
A notable initiative in progress is the creation of an open-air museum at the Dalvarzintepa monument, reflecting the region's deep historical roots. Expanding on this effort, similar museums are slated for establishment in Boysun, renowned for being one of the world's deepest caves, namely "Teshik Tash" and "Machay" caves, notable for their Neanderthal remains, and the Uzundara Castle, a monument steeped in Hellenistic culture. Additionally, an expedition involving foreign scientists is set to explore the Khatak cave and Zarautsoy rock in Sherabad, uncovering ancient settlements.
To enhance the overall tourist experience, a new tourist ring named "Naqshbandiya Piers" will be inaugurated along the route "Samarkand - Kitab - Denau - Altinsay - Termez." This circuit aims to showcase the diverse cultural and historical landmarks along the journey, contributing to the region's allure.
However, recognizing the current limited accommodation options with only 53 hotels and 2,500 beds, half of which are situated in Termez, the government is offering subsidies to Surkhandarya entrepreneurs for hotel construction, irrespective of the star rating. This move is part of a broader strategy to triple tourist influx to the region in the coming year.
President Mirziyoyev has further directed efforts to revitalize civil aviation activities at the Sariosio airport by year-end. Plans include initiating regular flights from Sariosio to key destinations such as Samarkand and Tashkent in the following year, alongside an expansion of flight connections from Termez to Istanbul, Fergana, Bukhara, and Khorezm.
In a bid to improve transportation options, a dedicated tourist carriage is set to operate on the "Termez - Tashkent" route, offering travelers a unique and comfortable journey. Simultaneously, a new train service connecting "Sariosiyo - Tashkent" is poised to launch, promoting seamless connectivity within the region.
