Israel has acknowledged its responsibility for an attack that took place outside Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, causing casualties according to the Hamas-run health authorities. The incident resulted in the reported deaths of 15 individuals and injuries to 50 others.
Several videos captured at the scene depict a distressing sight of numerous injured individuals lying on the ground near an ambulance. Visible signs of shrapnel damage can be observed on at least one of the vehicles present.
Israel justified the attack by stating that it specifically targeted the ambulance due to its alleged affiliation with Hamas. In response, a spokesperson for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that the ambulance was part of a medical convoy departing from the hospital and the route to the Rafah border crossing. The relevant authorities had reportedly notified the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) about this movement.
The ICRC, in an official statement, acknowledged its awareness of the planned transfer of a convoy transporting wounded patients from northern Gaza to the south. However, it clarified that it was not directly involved in the convoy. The Palestine Red Crescent Society also confirmed that one of its ambulances was present in the convoy and sustained damage from shelling, but fortunately, none of its members suffered harm.
This attack occurred following a night of intense aerial bombardment, leaving Gaza residents to endure another wave of heavy assaults. The skies over northern Gaza were illuminated by flares and punctuated by explosions, further exacerbating the tense situation in the region.
