More than 60 Uzbek citizens were subjected to forced labor in brick factories in Kazakhstan. The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Almaty dispatched its staff to Shymkent to offer consular legal support and to gather information about the Uzbek citizens who had been rescued from this forced labor situation.
Accompanied by the leader of the public organization "Sana Sezim," which provides legal, financial, and material assistance to Uzbek citizens, diplomats visited a residence where 21 Uzbek citizens are currently staying. All of them had been employed at a brick factory in Shymkent.
A criminal case has been initiated against two employers, with Shymkent law enforcement agencies taking strict control of the case and implementing measures to safeguard the rights and interests of the Uzbek citizens. The employers were instructed to pay the wages owed to the 21 Uzbek citizens.
Furthermore, efforts were made to clarify the situation with 40 other Uzbek citizens working at a different brick factory in Shymkent. They met with their employers and compatriots. The 40 Uzbek citizens conveyed that they have no grievances against their employer and intend to continue working at the brick factory. They were informed about their rights and the option to seek assistance from diplomatic institutions. Inspections were conducted at their workplaces and residences, and no complaints or claims were identified.
Additionally, the Consulate General provided consular legal aid to four Uzbek citizens who had previously worked at the brick factory to facilitate the collection of their unpaid wages. The Consulate General is actively monitoring the situation and remains informed about the progress of the criminal case investigation.
