The president (director) of a synagogue in Detroit, Samantha Woll, was tragically killed near her home on October 21.
Her lifeless body was found in Michigan in the morning, bearing "numerous" stab wounds. Police have clarified that the attack on Woll took place within her home, and she seemingly managed to make her way outside, as indicated by a blood trail leading to her residence, has reported cnn.
At 40 years of age, Samantha Woll had been leading the synagogue since 2022 and had close collaborations with local Democratic party politicians. She was notably the organizer of the Muslim-Jewish Forum of Detroit, a platform aimed at fostering interfaith relations.
Given the backdrop of heightened tensions stemming from the conflict in Gaza, the FBI has pledged to assist the police as necessary, but so far, law enforcement has not determined any motives. They are urging the public to avoid unfounded rumors and suspicions.
Earlier, on October 16, 71-year-old homeowner in Chicago has been charged with a hate crime after allegedly stabbing a 6-year-old boy and his 32-year-old mother. The attack is believed to be motivated by their Muslim faith and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and Israel. The suspect, Joseph Chuba, was arrested in Plainfield, a Chicago suburb. Both victims were found with multiple stab wounds in their home, with the child sustaining a shocking 26 stab wounds.
The child died from his injuries, while the mother remains in a serious condition. Chuba faces charges of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, two hate crime offenses, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon under severe circumstances. According to upi, activists have expressed concerns about the potential for increased hatred and dehumanization, similar to what was observed after the September 11 attacks.
