The trial for the March 2016 Brussels terror attacks has concluded in Belgium. Eight defendants faced judgment, with seven of them on trial, while one is believed to have died in Syria.
According to Euronews, Mohamed Abrini, who accompanied two suicide bombers, has received a thirty-year prison sentence for his role in the attacks.
As for Salah Abdeslam, one of his co-defendants, the jury referred to a previous 2018 sentence and 20 years for a shootout with the police in March 2016 and decided against an additional sentence. Nonetheless, Belgian authorities still consider the French jihadist as one of the accomplices in the Brussels attacks.
The Brussels attacks on March 22, 2016, resulted in 35 fatalities, with more than 340 individuals sustaining injuries. Three suicide bombers orchestrated explosions at the airport in the Belgian capital and the "Malbeek" metro station. The terrorist group "Islamic State" claimed responsibility for the assaults.
