Pope Francis conveyed a special greeting to the people of China, referring to them as "noble," during a religious ceremony in Mongolia, Euronews reported.
This gesture was seen as a call to the Chinese authorities to respect religious minorities.
Prior to this, Pope Francis joined former and current Hong Kong bishops, Cardinals John Tong and Stephen Chow, at the altar.
In his address, Pope Francis expressed warm wishes for the Chinese people, hoping for their progress and prosperity. He also urged Chinese Catholics to embody both Christian values and good citizenship.
"I would like to extend warm greetings to the noble Chinese people. I wish them all the best, to move forward, and always strive for progress. To Chinese Catholics, I implore: be good Christians and good citizens."
While in Mongolia, the Pope led an interfaith gathering involving shamans, Buddhist monks, and a Russian Orthodox priest. He emphasized the significance of tolerance and underscored the potential of religions in contributing to global peace.
