During an event, Beatrix von Storch, a German politician affiliated with the far-right Alternative for Germany party (AfD), was targeted with a feces attack, as confirmed by both von Storch and the police on August 26, DW reports.
Beatrix von Storch holds the position of deputy leader within the AfD, a party known for its anti-immigration and anti-environmental policies. The incident occurred on Friday at an event venue in the town of Daun in Rhineland-Palatinate, a southwestern state in Germany.
Von Storch addressed the attack in a video posted on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter. She denounced the incident, stating, "Yesterday there was another disgusting attack on me and the AfD in Rhineland-Palatinate." She expressed her party's commitment to using arguments in their fight and criticized those resorting to such reprehensible methods. She affirmed their determination to continue their efforts for the moral and intellectual rejuvenation of the nation.
The perpetrator was apprehended by the police and is currently under investigation. Von Storch informed the German news agency dpa that she has filed a formal complaint.
As per the police statement released on August 26, the AfD event was attended by approximately 80-85 participants, while a counter-demonstration outside the venue saw the participation of up to 120 people. Law enforcement officials clarified that they had coordinated with organizers from both gatherings to ensure the protection of participants' rights to assembly and freedom of expression.
The police reported that a 35-year-old man entered the event hall and initially requested a photo with Beatrix von Storch. However, he proceeded to smear her with dog feces. The man reportedly resisted arrest briefly before being subdued.
At 52 years old, Beatrix von Storch has held her role as AfD's deputy leader since 2015. She has been a member of the Bundestag parliament since 2017 and was previously a Member of the European Parliament. Prior to entering politics, she worked as a banker and lawyer. Additionally, she comes from the royal House of Oldenburg lineage, which historically ruled a portion of present-day northwestern Germany.
