On July 9, approximately 10 cars were swept away by a flooding in Sochi, according to the press service of the Emergency Situations Ministry in the Krasnodar region, Russia, RIA News has reported The cars were carried away onto Ruchei Vidny Street.
Several houses in the Hostinsky District were also affected by the flooding. The basement of a residential high-rise building on Kiparisovaya Street and the ground floor of a house on Shosseynaya Street were submerged. Local residents were not evacuated, and emergency services are currently working on draining the water.
The mayor of the city, Alexey Kopaygorodsky, stated that water reached the apartments on the first floor of another building on Kiparisovaya Street, resulting in the relocation of ten residents to temporary accommodation. The road infrastructure in the Hostinsky District has also sustained damage, but public transportation services continue to operate.
According to preliminary information from local authorities and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there have been no reports of fatalities or injuries due to the heavy rainfall.
On the night of July 9, Sochi experienced approximately 80 millimeters of precipitation, as reported by the local administration. A storm warning remains in effect in the city until the end of the day on July 10. Meteorologists predict further heavy rain, hail, coastal flooding, and the formation of waterspouts.
