At least seven people were taken to local hospitals after the hail storm at the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre around ten miles west of Denver, NBC news reported.
Massive hailstones battered concertgoers at a Louis Tomlinson show in Colorado on June 21, resulting in nearly 100 injuries and the cancellation of the concert. The incident occurred at the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre, a popular open-air venue located approximately ten miles west of Denver.
As the English singer and songwriter performed, fans were caught off guard by the sudden onslaught of massive hail pellets. Chaos ensued as concert attendees scrambled for cover, with some seeking refuge in their vehicles. One witness described the scene as resembling something out of a horror movie, and video footage circulating on social media showed hail cascading down an outdoor staircase.
The West Metro Fire Rescue reported that at least seven individuals were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. On-site medical personnel treated many of them and sustained minor cuts. Emergency responders remained in the area as sporadic hail continued to fall.
"A total of 80 to 90 people were treated on scene. Injuries include cuts and broken bones," the fire department confirmed.
Severe thunderstorm warnings had been issued for the region, with the National Weather Service in Boulder alerting residents to the possibility of golf ball-sized hail. Despite the unfortunate turn of events, Louis Tomlinson expressed his concern and empathy for his fans. In a tweet, he expressed his devastation and assured everyone that he would return.
"Devastated about the show tonight, hope everyone’s ok, I’ll be back! Even though we didn’t play the show I felt all of your passion! Sending you all love!" the musician said in a tweet.
Initially, the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre had announced a weather delay, urging attendees to seek shelter in their vehicles. However, it was later confirmed that the show was officially postponed. The venue advised ticket holders to exit safely and promised to provide further information regarding rescheduling.
Social media users shared their harrowing experiences from the concert, recounting the intensity of the hail storm. Some described being pelted by hailstones while desperately searching for shelter, resulting in bruises and a terrifying ordeal. The overwhelming sentiment expressed online was a mix of relief that no lives were lost and gratitude for the concern shown by Louis Tomlinson.
