Luxury fashion brand Tom Ford has appointed Lelio Gavazza as its new CEO, following recent changes at the top of the company. The appointment comes after Zegna Group acquired the brand's fashion operations earlier this year, and Gavazza is set to take on his new role in mid-September, just in time for fashion month.
Gavazza, previously an executive at LVMH's Italian luxury fashion house Bulgari, brings over twenty years of experience in global luxury and luxury distribution to his new position. As the Executive Vice-President for sales and retail at Bulgari, he demonstrated shrewd business skills and expertise in the luxury industry.
Ermenegildo "Gildo" Zegna, the chairman and CEO of Zegna Group, expressed his confidence in Gavazza's abilities, stating that the new CEO's world-class business acumen, international experience, and leadership skills will be invaluable in the development of Tom Ford's fashion business worldwide.
In his new role, Gavazza will oversee all aspects of the business, including collection development, production, merchandising, and retail. His appointment follows the decision of Tom Ford, the fashion powerhouse and founder of the eponymous brand, to step down entirely from his label in April. Last November, Ford sold his established business to Estée Lauder for approximately $2.8 bn.
Since Ford's departure, Peter Hawkings has taken over as the creative director, while Guillaume Jesel was appointed as the new company president. With these changes at the top and the addition of Gavazza as the CEO, Tom Ford aims to continue its legacy as a pinnacle of luxury fashion.
“I am honoured to join Zegna Group as its CEO of Tom Ford Fashion and look forward to working with Gildo Zegna and partnering with Guillaume Jesel to continue to foster the growth of Tom Ford at the pinnacle of luxury fashion,” Gavazza stated.
Tom Ford, now 61 years old, has been a prominent figure in the fashion industry since he joined Gucci in 1990. His provocative approach to the brand's identity and sexually suggestive adverts gained international fame for the fashion designer. In 2004, he left Gucci to establish his own label, emphasizing the importance of creative control in his career.
