Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan discussed expanding bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation during talks between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, with both sides reviewing ongoing projects and preparations for upcoming high-level engagements.
The discussions took place on July 17 during Jabbarov's working visit to Uzbekistan. At the beginning of the meeting, the Azerbaijani minister conveyed greetings and best wishes from President Ilham Aliyev to President Mirziyoyev.
According to the presidential press service, the parties reviewed key issues related to further developing the strategic partnership and allied relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, with particular attention to trade and economic cooperation.
Officials noted that bilateral trade turnover increased by 15% in 2025, while trade grew by nearly 40% during the first half of this year.
The sides also reviewed joint projects being implemented in construction, energy, geology, logistics, finance, fuel, textiles, tourism, and other sectors, including initiatives supported by the joint Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan Investment Company.
The importance of preparing a comprehensive economic agenda for upcoming high-level meetings was also emphasized.
The parties positively assessed the outcomes of the sessions of the Uzbekistan–Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council held on the same day. They also highlighted the need to ensure the successful organization of the upcoming forum of the regions of the two countries to further strengthen economic cooperation.
