Uzbekistan recorded a 7.2% year-on-year increase in primary car sales in January 2026, with total sales reaching 28,600 new passenger vehicles, according to analysis by the Centre for Economic Research and Reforms.
The data include both domestically produced and imported vehicles and highlight shifts across key market segments, particularly in electric vehicles (EVs).
Regionally, the highest sales activity was observed in Bukhara, Kashkadarya, Fergana and Surkhandarya regions. In contrast, sales declined in Samarkand, Khorezm and Tashkent city, reflecting differences in local demand and supply dynamics.
Sales of domestically produced new vehicles increased by more than 11%, exceeding 24,000 units. Meanwhile, sales of foreign-manufactured new cars totalled around 4,400 units, down 10% compared to January 2025. The figures indicate a growing market share for local manufacturers.
Electric vehicles emerged as the main growth driver. In January, EV sales rose by 9% to 6,100 units. Tashkent accounted for more than 62% of total EV sales, with 3,700 units sold in the capital alone.
On the primary market specifically, EV sales surged by 45.3% to 4,700 units, marking a record increase and reinforcing the segment’s expanding role in Uzbekistan’s automotive market.
In 2025, Uzbekistan produced 457,883 passenger cars, driven by higher output of mass-market models such as Cobalt and expanding assembly of international brands. Electric vehicles were the fastest-growing segment, with annual sales rising 35% to 40,700 units.
Under the “Uzbekistan-2030” strategy, the country aims to nearly double passenger car production from around 460,000 units in 2026 to almost 1mn by 2030 to meet rising domestic and regional demand.
