Electric vehicle imports to Uzbekistan increased nearly sixfold in the first two months of 2026, reflecting growing demand for environmentally friendly transport, according to data published by the State Customs Committee.
Between January and February 2026, Uzbekistan imported 9,698 electric vehicles worth $158.6mn.
During the same period in 2025, the country imported only 1,556 electric vehicles valued at $18mn, indicating a sharp year-on-year increase in both the number and value of EV imports.
Imports of gasoline-powered vehicles also recorded a slight increase. In January–February 2026, Uzbekistan purchased 2,988 gasoline cars worth $55.95mn, compared with 2,746 vehicles worth $55.88mn in the same period last year. While the number of imported cars increased, the overall value remained nearly unchanged.
Meanwhile, hybrid vehicle imports saw particularly strong growth. In the first two months of the year, Uzbekistan imported 1,249 hybrid cars worth $41.2mn, compared with just 70 vehicles valued at $2.1mn during the same period in 2025.
The rise in imports comes as Uzbekistan continues to expand its automotive sector. Earlier reports showed that Uzbekistan’s primary car market grew by 7.2% year-on-year in January 2026, with electric vehicle sales rising rapidly and accounting for a growing share of the market.
In 2025, the country produced 457,883 passenger cars, according to official data.
Under the Uzbekistan–2030 development strategy, authorities aim to increase domestic passenger car production to 1mn units annually within the next five years. Production is expected to reach 550,000 cars in 2027, 700,000 in 2028, and 800,000 by 2029.
