Kazakhstan has attracted more than $130mn in investments from Poland’s Polpharma Group, creating over 800 jobs and supporting the production of more than 280 generic medicines across 12 pharmaceutical groups, according to the official information source of the Prime minister of Kazakhstan.
Recently, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a series of meetings on the implementation of major investment projects in the manufacturing sector.
The discussions were held as part of efforts to advance investment cooperation in line with tasks set by the Head of State. Bektenov met with Chairman of the Board of the Association “Kazakhstan Foreign Investors’ Council” (KFIC) Erlan Dosymbekov, Managing Director of Alstom Kazakhstan Jerome Boyer, and Chief Executive Officer of Polpharma Santo (JSC Khimpharm) Adam Aleksiejuk.
During talks with KFIC, the parties discussed current issues in cooperation with foreign investors, with a focus on the implementation of infrastructure projects of strategic importance. Preparations for the upcoming 38th Plenary Meeting of the Foreign Investors’ Council were also reviewed.
Negotiations with Alstom Kazakhstan centered on the development of railway engineering and the expansion of export markets for finished products manufactured at the Elektrowoz Kurastyru Zauyty plant. It was noted that the level of localization at the enterprise has increased from 10% to 35%.
At the meeting with Polpharma Santo, the sides reviewed progress on an investment project in the pharmaceutical industry. JSC Khimpharm plans to produce more than 80 types of domestically made active pharmaceutical ingredients that form the basis of medicinal products. The project is aimed at strengthening Kazakhstan’s pharmaceutical independence, ensuring sustainable development, and enhancing the investment attractiveness of the sector.
Following the meetings, the Prime Minister instructed relevant sectoral ministries and responsible organizations to work through the issues and proposals raised by the investors.
