The Board of Directors of Kazakh Tourism Development has approved an updated master plan for the Almaty Superski project, a major initiative to expand Kazakhstan’s ski tourism sector.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov chaired the board meeting, which reviewed progress on the project aimed at developing the Almaty ski cluster, as instructed by the President in his recent Address.
Kazakh Tourism CEO Yerzhan Yerkinbayev presented the updated plan, prepared in cooperation with Pas Grau International (PGI), a global leader in ski resort design. The plan includes modern technologies such as satellite-based climate and terrain analysis, ski equipment production, and the introduction of “green” standards.
PGI President Joan Viladomat highlighted that the location near Almaty would secure a steady tourist flow and give the resort a competitive advantage in the region. He noted that the city’s existing hotels, restaurants, and transport links would reduce the need for large-scale construction within the resort.
Officials emphasized environmental safeguards in the master plan, which was developed in line with Kazakhstani and international standards and principles of sustainable tourism. Bektenov stressed the importance of minimizing environmental impact and preserving the region’s natural balance during construction.
The approved master plan will serve as the basis for the project’s feasibility study and design documentation. Officials expect the project to strengthen Almaty’s international reputation as a hub for winter and eco-tourism, while attracting investment in hotels, transport, services, and small and medium-sized enterprises.
