Uzbekistan and Mongolia signed several bilateral agreements on June 23 in Ulaanbaatar, paving the way for joint projects in the production of textiles, wool products, blended fabrics, and leather goods in Uzbekistan. The signing took place during the Mongolia–Uzbekistan Business Forum, held ahead of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Mongolia.
The forum, organized by Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade with support from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, brought together more than 300 companies as well as senior officials, regional representatives, and industry associations from both countries.
The Uzbek delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, while Mongolia was represented by Deputy Prime Minister Sainbuyan Amarsaikhan. The event was moderated by Ilzat Kasimov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade, and Solongo Enkhsaikhan, Director of International Cooperation at the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In his address, Khodjaev highlighted Uzbekistan’s economic progress under ongoing reforms. He noted that the country’s GDP has exceeded $100bn for the first time, supported by a 6.5% growth rate in 2024 and over $70bn in foreign investment. He reiterated Uzbekistan’s commitment to supporting foreign investors and fostering joint projects across key sectors.
The forum spotlighted several priority areas for cooperation. In trade, the two sides aim to expand exports of fruits and vegetables, fertilizers, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, appliances, textiles, footwear, meat products, leather, and wool. Plans to open trading houses and hold national exhibitions were also discussed.
Industrial collaboration will focus on joint production in leather and wool processing, cashmere manufacturing, electrical equipment, and construction materials. In agriculture, initiatives include greenhouse construction, drip irrigation technologies, and harvest processing. Joint exploration and development of mineral resources also featured prominently on the agenda.
Deputy Prime Minister Amarsaikhan praised Uzbekistan’s favorable investment climate and called on Mongolian businesses to deepen engagement with Uzbek partners through mutually beneficial projects.
Alongside the forum, a “Made in Uzbekistan” national exhibition showcased Uzbek-manufactured products. Business-to-business (B2B) and government-to-business (G2B) meetings enabled entrepreneurs and officials to outline practical steps for future collaboration.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is scheduled to make a state visit to Mongolia on June 24–25, following an invitation from Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh. The visit comes in response to President Khurelsukh’s earlier state visit to Uzbekistan, which took place from June 23 to 26, 2024, at President Mirziyoyev’s invitation.
