A new memorandum of cooperation has been signed between Uzbekkosmos (Uzspace) and the Prosecutor General's Office of Uzbekistan to bolster efforts in protecting the environment through the integration of aerospace technologies.

With global environmental crimes costing an estimated $200bn annually, the agreement comes as part of Uzbekistan’s broader national policy, spearheaded by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, to address environmental violations and promote ecological stability.
The partnership aims to monitor and prevent illegal activities such as deforestation, poaching, unauthorized mining, and corruption in ecological matters.
Under the memorandum, the two parties will collaborate to implement the State Space Monitoring System—a satellite-based platform that provides highly accurate and transparent data to support investigative and monitoring activities.
Key areas of cooperation include:
- Monitoring deforestation and reduction of green zones;
- Identifying illegal land grabs, including unauthorized construction on forest lands;
- Tracking illegal mining, especially in riverbeds and protected water zones;
- Surveying non-metallic mineral extraction to verify actual output against approved limits;
- Detecting expansion of waste sites and the formation of illegal dumps;
- Observing crop residue burning, which contributes to air pollution and soil degradation.
This high-tech approach will enable the detection of environmental violations in real-time, enhance early warning systems, and support inquiries and preliminary investigations.
Authorities believe the initiative will contribute to a stronger environmental culture and public accountability, promoting a more sustainable use of natural resources in Uzbekistan.
