Russia provided over 120 tons of food aid to Kyrgyzstan, specifically targeting the population in the southern region of the country. This humanitarian assistance was delivered to the city of Osh, as reported by the Telegram channel of the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan.
The food aid, consisting of vegetable oil, was transferred to Osh on the eve of Russia Day. The Russian Federation, in coordination with the UN World Food Program, facilitated this donation to support the local population. Representatives from the Russian Consulate General in Osh participated in the transfer process.
This delivery follows earlier food aid from Russia. In April, Kyrgyzstan received 337.5 tons of enriched wheat flour and nearly 61 tons of vegetable oil through the UN World Food Program.
The World Food Programme (WFP) has been operating in the Kyrgyz Republic since 2008, strengthening national capacities and systems for social protection, emergency preparedness and response, disaster risk management and climate change adaptation, and improving food security and nutrition for the most vulnerable households.
The WFP’s current five-year plan in Kyrgyzstan aims to improve access to nutritious food for all primary schoolchildren across the country and support over 100,000 poor families – particularly women – in the most underdeveloped communities to improve people’s livelihoods and their ability to cope with disasters and climate change.
