Following extensive negotiations between President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea, array of bilateral agreements has been inked on June 14.
The talks, held in a cordial atmosphere conducive to constructive dialogue, resulted in the signing of the Joint Declaration on the Further Deepening and Comprehensive Expansion of the Special Strategic Partnership.
Among the 17 documents signed during President Yoon's state visit to Uzbekistan, key agreements include:
- An intergovernmental agreement with the Fund for Economic Development and Cooperation.
- Agreements with the Export-Import Bank of Korea and Hyundai Rotem for the purchase and delivery of high-speed electric trains.
- An agreement with the Export-Import Bank of Korea to supply science, information, and communication technology equipment for secondary schools.
- An agreement to implement the innovative pharmaceutical cluster project "Tashkent Farma Park".
- Cooperation agreements in areas such as civil servant capacity building, culture, transport, modernization of centralized heat supply systems, partnership in critical minerals, and support for the Uzbekistan-Korea joint committee on trade and economic cooperation.
- A memorandum on cooperation in agriculture and interbank credit lines between SQB and the Export-Import Bank of Korea.
Collaboration extends to healthcare with the launch of a modern children's clinic and plans for a comprehensive medical cluster including a university, hospital, and oncology clinic.
In cultural and humanitarian spheres, both nations declared 2025 as "the year of exchanges between Uzbekistan and Korea", promoting intercultural weeks, forums on youth, education, language, sports, art exhibitions, and tourism.
Looking forward, Uzbekistan and Korea envision a new era of high-tech and innovative partnership. President Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the signed agreements, including the Joint Declaration, will pave the way for substantial progress in bilateral relations. A comprehensive roadmap will ensure the timely implementation of these agreements, supported by a multi-level mechanism for project oversight and assistance proposed by President Mirziyoyev.
The strategic dialogue between the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation and foreign policy agencies was also highlighted as pivotal in enhancing cooperation mechanisms and balancing mutual trade volumes.
