In a recent press conference highlighting the outcomes of Russian diplomacy in 2023, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the importance of the Taliban-led interim government in Afghanistan fulfilling its promises, particularly regarding the creation of an inclusive government, TASS reported on January 18.
Lavrov stated that the Russian embassy in Kabul continues its contacts with the Taliban, addressing issues crucial for the formation of a fully recognized government.
"We actively recommend the Taliban to invite other political forces to the ruling structure,"
Lavrov urged, highlighting Russia's stance on encouraging a more diverse and inclusive political landscape in Afghanistan.
Despite the diplomatic engagement, the UN still recognizes diplomats appointed by the government that was overthrown over two years ago.
Earlier Daryo reported that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed the necessity of entering into talks with the Taliban government in Afghanistan, citing it as the most advantageous course for the region. While underlining the imperative for dialogue, Lavrov clarified that Russia cannot entertain the idea of recognizing the Taliban unless they meet their commitments to form a government that is inclusive.
