ILF Consulting Engineers Austria GmbH, an Austrian consulting firm, has unveiled an ambitious project for the construction of the Tashkent-Samarkand toll road, as per the statement from the transport department of the Samarkand region.
The proposed six-lane highway spans an impressive 305 km and is designed for a service life of 25 years. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has allocated a grant of $350,000 to facilitate the initial feasibility study for this major infrastructure project.
The EBRD, a key financial organization supporting the endeavor, has committed a total of $1.5mn for the creation of the feasibility study. Collaborating with the Turkish firm Proyapı Mühendislik ve Müşavirlik A.Ş, they aim to turn this ambitious vision into reality.
The Tashkent-Samarkand toll road project not only entails the construction of a state-of-the-art six-lane highway but also includes plans for new bridges and overpasses over interchanges and structures. An intelligent transport system is set to be introduced to enhance efficiency and safety.
Compliant with international standards, the route will boast a substantial carrying capacity of 13 tons. The anticipated service life of the toll road is projected to be 25 years, promising a robust and enduring addition to Uzbekistan's transportation infrastructure. The successful realization of this project is poised to significantly enhance connectivity and transportation efficiency in the region.
Earlier, it was reported that Meridiam, a French investment fund, has demonstrated keen interest in engaging in public-private partnership (PPP) projects within Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Economy and Finance's press service reports. The discussions also encompassed potential projects in transport infrastructure, particularly the Bukhara-Samarkand and Tashkent-Andijan highways.
