President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the Akim (mayor) of Astana, Zhenis Kassymbek, to receive a comprehensive overview of the socio-economic and infrastructural developments in the capital city, Akorda reported. The meeting provided insights into the positive trends across key economic indicators and outlined ambitious plans for the city's growth.
During the meeting, President Tokayev learned that over the first 10 months of the year, the capital had witnessed remarkable economic progress. Investments in various sectors surpassed KZT 1 trillion ($2.1bn), with 25 investment projects totaling KZT 87.7bn ($190mn) expected to be commissioned by the end of the year. These projects spanned the manufacturing industry, education, medicine, and logistics, contributing to the creation of 1,400 new jobs.
One highlight of the briefing was the positive trajectory of the heating season. Recent completions, including the Yugo-Vostok gas thermal station, the first stage of the Turan gas thermal station, and the first stage of CHPP-3, have increased the city's thermal power capacity to 1140 Gcal/hour. This led to a surplus of heat for the first time in a significant period, enhancing the overall comfort and well-being of the city's residents.
Looking ahead, the city is set to benefit from the upcoming launch of the first stage of the Telmana gas thermal station and the second stage of the Turan gas thermal station in the coming year, providing an additional 850 Gcal/hour of thermal power.
Akim (mayor) Zhenis Kassymbek, detailed ongoing and upcoming projects related to social infrastructure, including the construction of schools, subsidized housing, and medical centers. The city is also focusing on completing long-term construction initiatives, demolishing emergency dilapidated housing, and developing residential areas. Notably, plans for the construction of five schoolchildren's palaces and state kindergartens were announced, underscoring the city's commitment to education and child welfare.
President Tokayev issued a series of instructions aimed at further advancing the development of both social and engineering infrastructure in Astana. These directives underscore the government's dedication to fostering sustained growth and improving the overall quality of life for the residents of the capital.
