In a historic address at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude for the invitation and commended the UAE's global initiatives in combating climate change.
The President highlighted the urgent need for international cooperation to address climate challenges, emphasizing the impact on global sustainable development.
He stressed the adverse effects of climate change in Central Asia, particularly the Aral Sea catastrophe, urging attention to the region's unique challenges.
"In this regard I would like to draw your attention to the following facts: In our region, the increase in air temperature is twice as high as the global average indicator. In recent years, the number of extremely hot days has increased two times, and one third of the glaciers have melted down completely. The soil erosion is impacting the lifestyle of over 30mn people in our region. Strong sand and dust storms are becoming a new normal."
