The Agency for Strategic Reforms is set to embark on a comprehensive study of foreign experiences to inform its initiatives for transformative changes in the economy and other vital sectors. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on November 8, endorsed a decree aimed at enhancing the activities of the Agency for Strategic Reforms, as reported by the legal information channel of the Ministry of Justice.
This augmentation of responsibilities includes the development of initiatives focused on addressing priority issues for the population and driving transformations in the economic, social, and other critical spheres. The Agency has been tasked with thoroughly examining economic, social, and other reforms implemented abroad. A team of experts will meticulously prepare proposals for integrating analogous initiatives in Uzbekistan.
The Agency will also scrutinize recommendations from international organizations, financial institutions, consulting firms, and research entities. It is mandated to formulate plans for feasibly implementing reforms. To ensure transparency and accountability, executive authorities must provide monthly reports to the Agency on the progress of foreign experts and consultants engaged in the process.
This initiative builds on the President's earlier directive in March, which involved the transfer of state blocks of shares to 31 companies, including prominent entities such as Uzbekistan Airways, AGMK, and NGMK. The management of these enterprises, entrusted to UzAssets, was charged with implementing reforms and attracting foreign investors. UzAssets and its shares in state-owned companies were transferred to the Ministry of Finance, which also acquired shares in the Reconstruction and Development Fund in nine banks and Uzmetkombinat.
