Matthew Perry, the beloved actor known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular sitcom “Friends,” was privately interred at a cemetery in Los Angeles. The intimate ceremony, which took place on November 3, was attended by Perry’s family and all five of his “Friends” co-stars.
The two-hour service was held at the Forest Lawn cemetery, located near the Warner Bros Studios. Perry, who was found deceased in his LA residence the previous weekend, was 54 years old. The cause of his death remains unconfirmed as officials await the results of toxicology tests following an inconclusive post-mortem examination.
Perry’s portrayal of the witty Chandler Bing from 1994 to 2004 has left a lasting impact, with his passing prompting a wave of sorrow from admirers and fellow celebrities. Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where Perry was laid to rest, is also the final resting place of numerous Hollywood luminaries including Carrie Fisher, Paul Walker, and Stan Laurel.
Photographs taken from a distance and aerial views of the service were shared by US media, showing Perry’s “Friends” co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer in attendance. Perry’s mother, father, stepfather, and approximately 20 other individuals dressed in black were also present at the ceremony.
Perry’s memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” published a year before his death, detailed his long-standing battle with addiction to prescription painkillers and alcohol. Coinciding with his funeral, a new foundation was established in Perry’s honour to assist those grappling with addiction.
The Matthew Perry Foundation’s website features a quote from Perry stating his desire for his legacy to be defined by his efforts to help others, rather than his role on “Friends.” Marta Kauffman, co-creator of “Friends,” shared that she had spoken to Perry two weeks before his death, describing him as “happy and chipper” and seemingly “in a really good place.”
