A shooting incident in Brussels on October 16, evening resulted in the deaths of two individuals, while the suspect remains at large, reported Euronews.
A video shared on the website of the Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws shows a shooter, clad in a bright orange jacket, firing several rounds from an automatic rifle before fleeing on a scooter. A representative from the prosecution confirmed that an investigation has been launched, although the motive remains unclear.
The assailant allegedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" and claimed allegiance to the "Islamic State," stating that the attack was in retaliation on behalf of Muslims.
Reports from local media suggest that the victims were Swedish nationals wearing jerseys of the Scandinavian national football team, who were in Brussels for a European Championship qualifying match against Belgium. Witnesses also observed an Israeli flag in their car.
In response to the attack, Belgium, as reported by La Libre, raised its terrorist threat level to the maximum level of 4, signifying the seriousness and inevitability of the threat.
The Belgium-Sweden match was halted at halftime, with Swedish players refusing to continue, a decision accepted by the Belgians. The President of the Swedish Football Association was evacuated, and security measures were heightened for both fans at the stadium and attending journalists.
