The specialized inter-district court in Kazakhstan's Turkestan region has handed down a verdict in the case of a person accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a five-year-old girl in the Saryagash district Otyrar.kz reports.
The defendant, a 48-year-old individual with a prior criminal record, has been sentenced to life imprisonment and chemical castration. He will serve his sentence in a high-security detention facility. Additionally, the court has ordered the defendant to pay KZT 100mn (equivalent to $217,000) as moral compensation to the victim's family.
During the courtroom proceedings, as security officers were escorting the accused out of the courtroom, the mother of the deceased girl attempted to lunge at him and even threw a glass in his direction.
The incident in the Saryagash district occurred in July, where the accused, allegedly inebriated, encountered a young neighbor playing on the road. He deceived the child into entering his home, where he sexually assaulted her and then used a kitchen knife to fatally injure her in an attempt to cover up his crime. Tragically, the victim succumbed to her injuries at the crime scene, and her lifeless body was discovered in the man's barn.
This heinous crime provoked outrage among the local community, with some individuals expressing a desire to take matters into their own hands. However, the timely intervention of law enforcement prevented any vigilante actions. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took note of the incident and instructed the General Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
