As a result of a cyclone in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, 39 people have tragically lost their lives, according to reports from the local G1 portal. Additionally, nine residents are currently listed as missing.
Approximately 2,700 individuals from 80 municipalities have been successfully rescued, while over 6,000 people find themselves homeless due to the hurricane's devastating impact.
According to Reuters notes that heavy rains in the region are becoming increasingly common and intense due to climate change. This phenomenon is linked to warmer air holding more moisture, causing thunderclouds to become "heavier," as reported by the agency.
The torrential rains triggered by the cyclone have affected a total of 80 cities, causing rivers to overflow and widespread flooding. In the municipality of Zjupia, wind speeds exceeded 110 km/h. Local authorities have canceled all parades originally scheduled for Brazil's Independence Day celebration on September 7.
