"Uzbekgidroenergo" has declared the commencement of its inaugural bidding process aimed at constructing five novel hydroelectric power stations, the Ministry of Energy's press service reports.
The government of Uzbekistan is actively executing an extensive strategy to harness renewable energy sources, with the primary goal of satisfying the surging electricity demand within the country while simultaneously establishing a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable means of energy production.
In pursuit of this objective, the state-owned entity "Uzbekgidroenergo" is embarking on the procurement process for the initial set of hydroelectric power plants, operating under the framework of a public-private partnership. This first batch encompasses the erection of five modern hydroelectric power stations, collectively possessing an approximate capacity of 46.6MW, including integral safety infrastructure.
The financial outlay for the construction of the hydroelectric power stations, namely "Kizildarya" ("Qizilsoy"), "Suvlisoy," "Dukentsoy," "Kamchik," and "Quyi Koksuv," amounts to a total of $106.9mn. These facilities are projected to generate an annual electricity output of around 179mn kWh.
Earlier, as it was stated in a Presidential decree dated December 10, 2021, the hydroelectric power generation capacity within the nation is slated to rise to 3,416MW by 2030. This ambitious expansion will be realized by accelerating the establishment of consistent new capacities through the widespread adoption of environmentally friendly energy sources and gradual modernization of the existing production facilities.
On July 22 it was reported that highly qualified foreign consultants have been engaged through the "Institutional Capacity Building" grant funds from the World Bank to financially back the projects. Moreover, Synergy Infrastructure and Financial Advisory Services Inc., Dolsar Engineering, and UNICASE have been selected as financial, technical, and legal consultants, respectively.
The applications for tenders are being accepted through several e-mails indicated on the ministry's website. To participate, interested parties must accept the Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and access the Request for Qualification (RFQ) documents via the provided link. Clarification queries can be submitted in writing to specified email addresses by 12 September 2023.
