The U.S. Department of the Treasury has levied sanctions on companies from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Slovakia due to their alleged affiliations with North Korea. These actions are part of the broader efforts to deter illicit transactions and connections that could potentially support North Korea's activities, the treasury's press service reports.
The three companies are suspected to have ties with Slovakian citizen Ashot Mkrtychev, who was previously sanctioned in March for his role in discussions with North Korean officials. These discussions reportedly centered around the provision of "20 types of weapons and ammunition" to Russia in exchange for civilian aircraft, raw materials, and other goods.
The entities facing sanctions include Defense Engineering from Kazakhstan, Verus from Russia, and Versor from Slovakia. Such sanctions typically involve the freezing of assets within the jurisdiction of the United States Treasury. This move underscores the global commitment to curb any activities that might aid North Korea's pursuits through careful monitoring and appropriate actions against involved parties.
