Saudi Arabia is planning to conduct a meeting in August, which will involve the participation of 30 countries, all excluding Russia, aimed at finding a resolution to the ongoing war in Ukraine, The Wall Journal has reported.
The countries that have been proposed by Saudi Arabia and Ukraine to participate in the meeting include Indonesia, Egypt, Mexico, Chile, and Zambia. Additionally, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Poland, and the European Union have already confirmed their attendance.
The expectations from both Washington and Europe are that these negotiations, conducted without Russia's involvement, will lead to international support for peace conditions that favor Ukraine. Diplomats, who have been actively involved in the discussions, have revealed that high-ranking representatives from up to 30 nations are expected to convene in Jeddah on August 5th and 6th.
As reported, Ukrainian and Western officials are optimistic that their efforts will culminate in a peaceful summit at the end of 2023. During this summit, global leaders are expected to sign a comprehensive agreement based on common principles, which would serve as a foundation for future negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in support of Kyiv's interests.
According to diplomatic sources, Saudi Arabia was chosen as the location for the talks in an attempt to persuade China to participate in the meeting. Riyadh and Beijing have established close ties.
