Based on the preliminary results of the presidential election, the incumbent President Shavkat Mirziyoyev won with 87.05% of the votes. Following his victory, the newly elected head of state started receiving congratulations from both foreign heads of state and partner countries.
Specifically, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his successful election, expressing confidence in further strengthening bilateral cooperation in various areas such as trade, economy, investments, energy, agriculture, and other priority sectors.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev also had a phone conversation with the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. They discussed expanding bilateral relations and advancing joint projects. The Azerbaijani leader congratulated his Uzbek counterpart on his confident victory in the election, emphasising peace, stability, and prosperity for the friendly Uzbek people.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Turkey engaged in a telephone conversation with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, discussing the necessity of preparing for the future meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council. The Turkish leader expressed his sincere congratulations on the successful outcome of the election and commended the active participation of voters, as well as the strong support from the population for ongoing developments in Uzbekistan.
A phone conversation also took place between Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, focusing on further enhancing the strategic partnership and expanding multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. The President of Turkmenistan warmly congratulated his Uzbek counterpart on his resounding victory.
Furthermore, Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a telephone conversation with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The Kazakh leader congratulated the Uzbek President on his successful election and expressed his wishes for new achievements, prosperity, and harmony. The discussion emphasised the importance of advancing joint projects in trade and economy.
Lastly, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, had a telephone conversation with the National Leader of Turkmenistan and Chairman of the People's Council, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as the Presidential Press Service reported this.
During the conversation, the leader of Turkmenistan sincerely congratulated his Uzbek counterpart on his successful victory in the presidential election and wished prosperity and harmony to the friendly Uzbek people.
The Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan friendship, good neighbourliness, and strategic partnership have been noted with great satisfaction, as they continue to develop significantly in the coming years.
"Cooperation in industry, energy, agriculture, and other sectors is expanding. Interparliamentary relations and humanitarian exchanges have been active. The leaders of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have discussed issues of mutual interest concerning the regional agenda. A joint action plan for the future has been reviewed," the report said.
Daryo reported that, the presidential election in Uzbekistan took place on July 9, 2023. More than 10,000 polling stations across the country received voters from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The data provided by the Central Election Commission shows that a total of 15.6 million people, which is 79 percent of registered voters, cast their votes. The Article 96 of the Election Code says that if 33% of the registered citizens participate in the voting process, the election is considered valid.
Preliminary results of the presidential election are:
Ulugbek Inoyatov (XDP) - 4.2%;
Abdushukur Hamzayev (Ecological Party) - 3.74%;
Robakhon Mahmudova ("Adolat") - 4.43%;
Shavkat Mirziyoyev (UzLiDeP) - received 87.05% of the votes.
