During the plenary session of the upper chamber of parliament in Uzbekistan, Chairman of the Senate Tanzila Norboyeva highlighted several challenges related to the efficient use of water resources in the country. She expressed concerns about the lack of measures aimed at promoting responsible water usage in Uzbekistan.
Norboyeva emphasized that the depletion and scarcity of water resources is a global problem faced by many countries. It is crucial to learn from this situation and adopt practices that encourage water conservation and rational usage. However, the primary issue that needs immediate attention is the problem of wasteful and thoughtless water usage.
"Instances of unnecessary water waste are frequently observed in daily life, and the public has recently raised concerns about systemic water problems. Despite this, comprehensive measures aimed at promoting responsible water use are lacking, and there is silence from officials on this matter" - says the senator.
Many developed countries prioritize water conservation, regardless of their high standard of living. However, in Uzbekistan, the culture of responsible water use has not been fully established, from individual households to large state organizations. Water wastage and lack of conservation are particularly noticeable in major cities.
To address these issues, Norboyeva stressed the importance of starting at the grassroots level, involving families and neighborhoods. Authorities and citizens' assemblies should take greater responsibility and actively educate the public.
"It is essential to implement effective methods of public influence to discourage water wastage and establish uncompromising public control. Furthermore, leaders at the national and local levels must be held personally accountable for the protection of water resources, promoting a sense of responsibility among all stakeholders" - she concludes.
