A protest by miners from Chiatura has been ongoing in the capital city of Georgia since June 19, SputnikGeorgia reports.
The miners have been staging a demonstration near the parliament building and have set up tents there. They have also been marching through the city's central streets.
Some of the miners, who are demanding a 20% salary increase, insurance coverage, and improved working conditions, have declared an indefinite hunger strike outside the parliament in Tbilisi.
The switch to a new work schedule, transitioning from a two-shift 12-hour system to a three-shift 8-hour system, has also contributed to the miners' strike. According to the management of Georgian Manganese Holding, this decision was made due to a decrease in demand and low prices for ferroalloys in the market.
