During the Paris Aerospace Exhibition held in Le Bourget, a suburb of Paris, on Monday, June 19, Airbus, the European aircraft manufacturer, entered into an agreement with the Indian airline Indigo to sell 500 A320neo aircraft, DW reports.
Christian Scherer, the Head of Airbus Sales, described this deal as the largest order ever recorded in the history of aviation.
In 2019, Indigo, the Indian low-cost carrier, had already placed an order for 300 aircraft of the same model from Airbus. Overall, the airline intends to purchase approximately 1,000 planes from the European company, with 480 of them scheduled for delivery by the end of this year.
However, the newly ordered equipment from the June 19 agreement will not commence delivery until 2030. The financial details of the contract were not disclosed by Airbus or Indigo.
The 54th edition of the Le Bourget exhibition marked its return after a four-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, Russia did not participate in this year's event. Among the military exhibits showcased at the air show was the Future Combat Air System (SCAF), a fighter aircraft jointly developed by Germany, France, and Spain.
