Indonesia's carrier Batik Air plans to begin direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Tashkent at the end of October this year, according to a report from Uzbekistan Airports.
The airline intends to operate this route thrice weekly using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The decision to operate scheduled passenger flights to Samarkand Airport in Uzbekistan was reached following negotiations between Batik Air and Uzbekistan Airports, with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Malaysia, the Ministry of Transport, and the airport's management company.
Reportedly, Batik Air, a low-cost carrier Lion Air subsidiary, mainly offers domestic flights within Indonesia.
