UzAuto Motors has stopped awarding contracts for Chevrolet Onix and Tracker without any explanation, "Autostrada.uz" reports.
Six months after the termination of contracts for the purchase of Cobalt and Lacetti, the awarding of contracts to Onix and Tracker, which cost over $17,300 was also terminated. According to the publication, the cheapest car that can be bought from the company now is Malibu for about $36,500.
"Typically, termination of contract issuance occurs at a time of inventory and subsequent price increases. "In the last 5 years, UzAuto Motors has stopped selling cars before raising prices under various pretexts," the report said.
Economist Otabek Bakirov wrote on his Telegram channel that Uzbeks have only one option to buy a car.
"Now, not only low-income and lower-middle-income people, but also middle-income and upper-middle-income Uzbeks have a choiceless and unique option to buy a car. The government has imposed very high tolls and restrictions on low-budget and mid-budget cars. Interestingly, the monopolist UzAuto Motors, which ignored Uzbek consumers, is organizing and expanding new and new production facilities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Azerbaijan, which are considered free markets. The cars are not available for Uzbeks, but are available for buyers from the listed countries," said the economist.
According to earlier reports, the production of the Nexia-3 car continued in March, but the contract for this type of car was stopped half a year ago.
UzAuto Motors previously reported that the production of Spark and Nexia will be stopped at the end of 2022, and they will be replaced by Chevrolet Tracker and Onix. However, sales of new model cars did not last long. So far, the company has not given an official explanation about the situation.
