Shavkat Mirziyoyev recently stated that Uzbekistan needs to become a member of WTO as soon as possible to enhance its export capabilities, thus the working group held a meeting to discuss the process, the president's press service reports.
"In the next three years, we plan to double the export of finished products. The only way to achieve this is to become a member of the WTO. This will make it possible to establish a fair trade system with 164 countries and gain stable markets," - the president said.
The member-states' concerns were addressed at the presentation to the president. Tasks were assigned based on World Trade Organization agreements to reconcile national law with it and modify processes and requirements according to global needs. Shavkat Mirziyoyev also emphasized the importance of attracting foreign specialists, forming working groups, and ensuring the methodical cooperation of all ministries and embassies in this area.
Uzbekistan re-started the procedure of entering this international organization in 2019. The last sixth conference of the working group on this procedure was conducted in Geneva in March. As of now, Uzbekistan has nearly finished discussions with three countries. There are 47 in all, with current discussions with 31 nations.
