President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, led by Speaker Woo Won-shik, who visited Uzbekistan to participate in the third meeting of heads of parliaments of the Republic of Korea and Central Asian states, press service of the president reports on December 17.
At the start of the meeting, Speaker Woo conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of the Republic of Korea, Lee Jae Myung, to President Mirziyoyev.
During the discussions, both sides reviewed the progress and prospects of the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea, including cooperation between their respective parliaments. The parties noted active political and interparliamentary engagement, as well as growth in trade and Korean investment in Uzbekistan, particularly in the areas of economic modernization and high-tech industry development.
The meeting also addressed developments in educational and cultural cooperation. Currently, four branches of leading South Korean universities and several vocational education centers are operating in Uzbekistan, contributing to expanded academic and professional exchanges.
The two sides confirmed support for ongoing and planned cooperation projects in infrastructure, transport and logistics, processing of rare metals and critical raw materials, digitalization of legislative processes, and implementation of advanced management solutions.
Additionally, the importance of strengthening the Interparliamentary Cooperation Program and increasing the activity of parliamentary friendship groups was emphasized. The parties also discussed the preparation of the agenda for upcoming high-level events, including the Central Asia–Republic of Korea Summit.
