Uzbekistan will launch the “Jaloliddin Manguberdi” high-speed train on the Tashkent–Khiva route starting May 2, expanding fast rail connections across the country, according to Deputy Prime Minister Ochilboy Ramatov.
The train, produced by South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem, is capable of reaching speeds of up to 260 km/h. It consists of seven carriages with a total capacity of around 390 passengers across VIP, business, and economy classes.
The modern train features a white exterior with tinted windows and design elements inspired by Uzbekistan’s national flag. It measures 175 meters in length and is designed to provide faster and more comfortable travel between major cities.
The train was recently tested during a trip attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who traveled from Samarkand to the Narpay district using the new system.
The introduction of Hyundai Rotem trains is part of broader railway reforms outlined in a presidential decree adopted in October 2023, aimed at modernizing Uzbekistan’s rail transport sector.
A contract for the delivery and maintenance of six high-speed trains, designed for speeds of up to 250 km/h, was signed between “Uzbekistan Railways” and Hyundai Rotem during a state visit by the President of South Korea. The first batch of trains was shipped to Uzbekistan in December 2025.
These developments align with Uzbekistan’s plans to double high-speed rail passenger traffic to 3.25mn by 2030 through fleet expansion. Earlier, a €80mn, 10-year maintenance agreement with Talgo had also been signed to ensure the reliability of the country’s high-speed train fleet.
