Railway freight transportation between Uzbekistan and Russia increased by 19.3% year-on-year in 2025, reaching 8.6mn tons, according to the Russian Ministry of Transport.
The upward trend continued into early 2026, with rail cargo volumes totaling 888,700 tons in January, marking a 40.4% increase compared to the same period last year.
Passenger traffic between the two countries also recorded growth. In 2025, around 109,000 passengers traveled by rail, up 15.4% from 2024. In January 2026, passenger numbers reached 6,266, maintaining the positive trajectory.
Air transport showed similar momentum. By the end of 2025, passenger traffic between Uzbekistan and Russia exceeded 2mn, while more than 196,000 passengers were transported in January 2026 alone.
In the road transport sector, the two sides exchanged 6,000 permits for cargo transportation to third countries, supporting cross-border logistics operations.
The sides also reviewed progress on the Trans-Afghan Railway project, highlighting its role in strengthening regional connectivity and enhancing trade routes across Central and South Asia.
Additionally, a system of navigation seals was introduced on February 11, 2026, to monitor cargo shipments within the Eurasian Economic Union. As of March 26, the system had been used for 16,550 shipments.
Discussions also covered expanding cooperation in aviation, including the implementation of an operational information exchange platform between airlines and airports.
Earlier reports indicated plans to increase the number of flights between Uzbekistan and Russia to 1,000 per week, a move expected to facilitate tourism flows and further support bilateral trade and economic ties.
