Uzbekistan has increased the number of general secondary education institutions to 11,118 in the 2025/2026 academic year, up by 175 compared to the previous year, according to the Statistics Agency of Uzbekistan.
Regionally, the highest number of schools was recorded in Samarkand region with 1,350 institutions, followed by Kashkadarya with 1,294 and Fergana with 1,119. Surkhandarya accounted for 1,003 schools, while Tashkent region had 935 and Andijan region 834.
Other regions included Namangan with 783 schools and Karakalpakstan with 771. Bukhara and Khorezm recorded 596 and 600 institutions respectively, while Jizzakh had 598. Lower figures were observed in Navoi with 387 schools and Syrdarya with 345, while Tashkent city accounted for 503 institutions.
Earlier, Uzbekistan has been advancing broader education reforms, including plans to direct 200,000 school graduates into vocational education by 2027 through expanded technical college programs and new training initiatives.
In 2025, reforms were approved by Shavkat Mirziyoyev that aim to expand preschool access, develop specialized engineering and science schools, and strengthen research and innovation across the education system.
