Uzbekistan has approved a new package of measures aimed at accelerating socio-economic development in Kashkadarya region, including the creation of a special economic zone, expansion of tourism projects, and agricultural modernization. The initiatives were outlined in a presidential decree signed on March 13.
A key component of the plan is the establishment of the “Muborak Innovative Industrial Zone” on 200 hectares in Muborak district. The project is expected to support industrial growth, attract investment, and create new jobs in the region.
Tourism development is also a priority. In Chiroqchi (Chirakchi) district, the “Sohil bo‘yi” (coastal area) complex will be further developed under the supervision of a regional department responsible for tourism infrastructure, with new projects aimed at increasing the area’s tourism potential.
In the agricultural sector, project offices will be launched in Shakhrisabz, Kamashi, Kokdala, and Guzar districts as part of the “agrostar” initiative. These efforts are designed to modernize farming practices and boost economic activity in rural areas. Additionally, livestock feed production is planned on 15,000 hectares, with 5,200 hectares to be developed in 2026.
The plan also includes social sector improvements. In 12 districts with low preschool coverage, 350 non-state family kindergartens will be opened, while 120 existing facilities will be equipped for school preparation programs.
International cooperation is another focus area. Starting in 2026, Uzbekistan will implement a program with Germany to train young people in the German language and vocational skills, preparing them for organized labor migration to European countries.
These measures align with broader government targets to reduce unemployment to 3.2% and poverty to 3% in the region by the end of 2026, with several districts expected to become free of unemployment and poverty. Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya region is also planning to implement 195 industrial projects worth $1.7bn in 2026.
