Uzbekistan plans to introduce five new car models in 2026, as per to Ulugbek Rozukulov, Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat, speaking at a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on February 13.
Rozukulov stated that the new Damas model has already been released following earlier instructions issued during a meeting in the Khorezm region. In 2026, Uzavtosanoat also plans to launch new models of the Chevrolet Traverse, Chevrolet Captiva and Kia vehicles. In addition, the BYD plant in Jizzakh is scheduled to begin production of the Yuan Up model. Rozukulov says that, there are 25,000 applicants for the Yuan Up in the Uzbek market, and the Chinese side has agreed to implement the project.
During the meeting, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed Rozukulov and Timur Ishmetov, Chairman of the Central Bank, to reduce interest rates on auto loans and increase lending volumes within a week to stimulate demand for domestically produced vehicles.
Uzbekistan currently has four large automotive enterprises with a combined production capacity of 650,000 vehicles per year. The president instructed Uzavtosanoat to begin production of an additional 760 components in cooperation with more than 300 local enterprises, which is expected to generate an additional $300mn in industry output. The target for 2026 is to increase vehicle production to 510,000 units, compared to 460,000 units produced last year.
The BYD plant in Jizzakh was launched in January 2024 during the president’s visit to China. In June 2024, the first electric vehicles were produced at the BYD Uzbekistan Factory joint venture in the Jizzakh region. The level of localization is expected to increase gradually as production volumes of electric vehicles expand.
