Uzbekistan is expanding its scientific cooperation with the European Union under the Horizon Europe framework, as a two-day conference dedicated to the program takes place in Tashkent on February 12–13, 2026.
The event has become an important platform for dialogue aimed at deepening strategic partnership in science and innovation between Uzbekistan and the EU. It was organized at the initiative of Uzbekistan’s National Contact Point for Horizon Europe, with support from the European Commission’s Global Service Facility and the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan.
Hosted by Tashkent State Technical University, the conference brought together more than 100 participants from across the country, including scientists and researchers, representatives of higher education institutions, industry specialists and policymakers.
The first session focused on Horizon Europe’s 2026–2027 work programmes, covering funding priorities, thematic clusters and mechanisms for international cooperation. Presentations highlighted key areas of financial support and outlined opportunities for Uzbek institutions to participate in joint research projects.
Speakers emphasised that engagement in Horizon Europe offers not only access to funding, but also a strategic pathway toward integration into the European Research Area. Participation in the programme is seen as an important step in strengthening Uzbekistan’s research capacity, fostering innovation and enhancing international scientific collaboration.
Earlier, Uzbekistan and the EU also discussed expanding cooperation in digitalization, transport infrastructure, critical raw materials and water management during talks between the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade and EU officials, reflecting the broader scope of bilateral partnership.
