Uzbekistan recalculated UZS 7.3bn ($580,000) in favor of consumers in 2025 following complaints related to the e-commerce sector, with nearly 84.8% of cases resolved positively.
Authorities reported that around 3,100 complaints were received last year concerning online marketplaces and digital retail platforms. The largest share of complaints concerned Uzum Market — 851 cases (27.8%), followed by Uzum Nasiya with 842 cases (27.6%).
Other companies mentioned in consumer appeals included Yandex — 329 cases (10.8%), Texnomart — 168 (5.5%), Ishonch — 166 (5.4%), Alif Shop (Alif Moliya, Alif Nasiya) — 150 (4.9%), Uzum Tezkor — 115 (3.8%), Openshop.uz — 56 (1.8%), ZoodMall — 54 (1.8%) and Idea — 46 (1.5%).
Investigations analyzed violations related to contract terms, warranty service issues, replacement of defective goods, misleading advertising, payment and delivery problems, as well as irregularities in replacing faulty products purchased on credit.
As a result of the review, consumer rights were restored in nearly 84.8% of cases. In total, damages amounting to UZS 7.3bn ($580,000) were recalculated in favor of 9.6mn consumers whose rights had been violated.
The recalculations come amid growth in Uzbekistan’s digital retail sector. In 2024, Davron Maksudov, Deputy Director of the National Agency for Perspective Projects of Uzbekistan, had projected that the country’s e-commerce sector could reach an annual turnover of $1bn by 2027, reflecting expectations of rapid market expansion.
Separately, authorities reported that pharmacies generated UZS 8bn ($640,000) in unjustified income from consumers in 2025. In addition, following complaints from apartment buyers, UZS 22.1bn ($1.76mn) was recalculated in favor of consumers across the country.
